VENTURA, the new Galicia (Spain) based co-production platform for global filmmakers and producers from across the world has put out its call for international projects at any stage of development, production or post-production stage, regardless of length, format or genre. Projects are welcomed from any country. VENTURA will run 8-9 March 2023.
The initiative was launched in September 2022 by the Cultural Association Enfoques, responsible for organising the Play-Doc International Film Festival which has been held in the border town of Tui (Galicia) for almost two decades. VENTURA is “dedicated to filmmakers and producers whose work focuses on making independent films with strong artistic visions. This initiative aims to empower unique voices to help find the best possible version of future films,” write organisers.
“Conceived as a hybrid workspace that combines face-to-face and virtual activities, VENTURA aims to accompany film projects through all phases. VENTURA aims to generate and nurture an international community of audiovisual industry professionals based in Galicia,” continue organisers.
VENTURA will take place in three stages, comprising professional training, project development and co-production meetings.
The five international projects selected from this call will join the 6 Spanish projects already selected. On 8-9 March, VENTURA will organise a co-production forum in which they will all participate in a series of one-to-one meetings with representatives of production companies, distributors, funds, markets and international festivals. In addition, all those selected will be eligible for the VENTURA prize, awarded by an international jury and with a value of €10,000, as well as a series of prizes in services provided by Cinemar Films, Cormorán VFX, Laboratorio Numax and the Doc’s Kingdom seminar, among others.
Selected Spanish projects
While the open call for international projects remains open, VENTURA has already announced the Spanish projects selected to participate in its first edition. These are:
- Después de nada, directed by Carla Andrade and produced by Pilar Monsell
- El alumbre, directed by Alejandro Tarraf and produced by Felipe Lage Coro
- Elena dio a luz un hermoso niño, directed by Chiara Marañón and Juan Soto Taborda, and produced by Luis Ferrón, Ricard Sales and Sandra Tabares Duque
- La frontera (working title), directed and produced by Andrés Duque
- Mil ourelas, directed by Sebastián Uría and produced by Olaia Ledo and Oliver Laxe
- Montaña ou morte, directed and produced by Pela del Álamo
These six projects will also participate at two earlier stages of VENTURA, reserved for national projects only.
The first is a virtual professional training programme in which they will be tutored by Martina Bleis (Co-Production Market, Berlinale), Aleksandra Zakharchenko (Marché du film, Cannes), Satu Elo (EAVE), Vincenzo Bugno (World Cinema Fund / Torino Film Lab), Gemma Vidal (Atresmedia), Montse Triola (Andergraun Films), Luís Urbano (O Som e a Fúria), Thomas Ordonneau (Shellac) and Valeska Neu (Films Boutique).
The second is a writing residency at Finca Remesal (Tui, Galicia) in which they will be overseen by advisors Marta Andreu, an expert in project mentoring with extensive experience in writing labs and residencies around the world, and the Italian producer and consultant Paolo Benzi.
