World broadcast and streaming rights for Pleistocene Park have been acquired by VICE World News for Season 3 of its spotlight documentary series, The Short List with Suroosh Alvi. The film, selected in 2022 for CPH:DOX, Hot Docs and Thessaloniki is described as a captivating and entertaining look at Russian geophysicist Sergey Zimov’s attempt to rewild a remote corner of Siberia.

CPH:DOX is open for film submissions for next year's festival which takes place from March 15-26 2023. Two deadlines: September 1 and December 1 respectively. Final deadline also this week (June 16) for the CPH:LAB international talent development programme. The festival is also inviting internship applications from students wanting to be part of CPH:DOX 2023.

Doclisboa, in partnership with Cinemateca Portuguesa - Museu do Cinema, presents in October a rare and complete retrospective of the Brazilian filmmaker Carlos Reichenbach, one of the protagonists of Brazilian Marginal Cinema. “This important film movement, along with Cinema Novo, originated in the 60s from São Paulo’s slum Boca De Lixo, at the height of the military dictatorship’s repression, as a response to the instability experienced in the country,” writes the festival.

Submission deadline of August 1 for Forum and DocLab Forum. Deadline for Docs for Sale is September 8. This year, IDFA Industry events will be presented in a new venue: Felix Meritis, located in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district. The new location will house both IDFA Forum and Docs for Sale, as well as their various sections and services, under the same roof for the first time.

In Lynch/Oz, Alexandre O. Philippe turns the spotlight on the legendary symbiosis between The Wizard of Oz, arguably America’s most absorbing piece of cinema mythology, and the output of maverick surrealist David Lynch, responsible for Wild at Heart, Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, among others. Philippe talks to BDE about his new work in which five filmmakers and a film critic assess Lynch’s work through the prism of Victor Fleming’s 1939 masterpiece.

Film London announced 8 June a new London Screenings partnership with Doc Society, with Head of Film Shanida Scotland to showcase a special presentation of Doc Soc titles. In addition, Mia Bays, Director of the BFI Film Fund, will present BFI’s Work in Progress showcase. For the first time, there will also be a specific doc strand in the London Screenings Breakthrough section.

Fleming will lead the impact team on key social impact entertainment campaigns for new film releases and brands, including Tribeca titles Battleground (in partnership with Red Owl Pictures) and Fashion Reimagined. Reporting to Sarah Mosses, Founder and CEO of Together Films, “the role feeds into Together Films growth ambitions as they expand to become the leading social impact agency in the UK and US,” the company writes.

De Humani Corporis Fabrica premiered in the 2022 edition of Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. The film is made by Verena Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor, directors of Leviathan. The producers are Norte Productions, CG Cinema, Rita Productions and the Sensory Ethnography Lab.

The program of the 33rd edition of FID Marseille includes 123 films representing 37 countries. The four competition sections (International, French, Flash and First Films) comprise 49 world premieres and 2 international premieres from 27 female and 38 male filmmakers. The festival runs in Marseille, July 5 to 11. The opening film is Emmanuel Mouret’s Diary of a Fleeting Affair.

The KFF recommendation to the European Film Award in the documentary category named as Boylesque by Bogna Kowalczyk, which was also winner of the Audience Award. The Golden Horn for Best Film was given to Denis Dobrovoda for The Cathedral (Slovakia). The Silver Horn for Highest Artistic Values went to Shaunak Sen for All That Breathes (USA, United Kingdom, India) while the Silver Horn for Film on Social Issues was won by Laura Sistero for Tolyatti Adrift (Spain).
