LUX Award nominations: Audience Week 10-16 May
Running 10-16 May, the LUX Audience Week presents the films nominated for the 2021 LUX Audience Award. The presentation includes virtual screenings and a live Q&A with the makers of Collective (Alexander Nanau), Another Round (Thomas Vinterberg) and Corpus Christi (Jan Komasa). Voting closes May 23, ahead of June 9 presentation.
Antenna Doc Festival call for submissions, top international prize $10,000 AUD
The 10th Antenna Documentary Film Festival, running 14–24 October 2021 in cinemas across Sydney, Australia, has increased its Best Feature Documentary cash prize to $10,000 AUD (approx €6,470) cash prize. The regular submissions deadline is 18 June, with a late deadline of 16 July.

Best International Feature Documentary Award given to Ostrov - Lost Island, Special Jury Prize -International Feature Documentary to School of Hope. Emerging International Filmmaker Award to Annabel Verbeke for Four Seasons in a Day.
Göteborg Film Festival presents new international film fund
Kicking off May 10, Göteborg Film Fund 2021 is a one-year project, financed by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a long-term goal to establish a permanent international film fund. The new initiative aims “to contribute to a diversified media landscape, with increased artistic freedom and free speech.” Doc and fiction submissions welcomed.
Greek films muscle in on 23rd Thessaloniki Doc Fest
Seventy-two feature and short Greek documentaries are selected for competitive and non-competitive sections of leading Hellenic documentary festival that will take place 24 June to 4 July in open-air theatres in Thessaloniki and online.
Hot Docs Forum wrap, top Canadian prize to ‘Wilfred Buck’
Hot Docs Forum, the Canadian docfest’s co-financing market event, wrapped April 6 after the presentation of 20 projects from 16 countries, with women representing 20 of the 25 directors and 36 of the 58 producers. The Canadian Forum Pitch was awarded to ‘Wilfred Buck’ by Lisa Jackson.
Thessaloniki Doc Festival opens submissions for podcast competitions
The two competitions, in English and Greek language, each bestow a €2000 prize. The deadline for submission is May 14. Podcasts must be 20-60 mins in length. The 23rd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival runs June 24 to July 4.
DAFilms to host Roberto Minervini retrospective from May 10
Included in the tribute are the director’s Low Tide, Stop the Pounding Heart and The Other Side. The DAFilms online portal will also host a live discussion between Minervini and Locarno Artistic Director Giona Nazzaro on 19 May.
Docaviv presents Israeli line-up for onsite 2021 edition
The 23rd edition of the Academy Award qualifying international documentary film festival Docaviv returns to Tel Aviv cinemas July 1 – with over 100 local and international documentaries, “allowing the magical encounter between the audiences, the films and their creators,” says Artistic Director Karin Rywkind Segal.
NFF + IBF supports two new projects
The Netherlands Film Fund + IDFA Bertha Fund Co-Production Scheme is supporting two documentary projects this year with €50,000 each: The Fabulous Gold Harvesting Machine by Alfredo Pourailly and The Nights Still Smell of Gunpowder by Inadelso Cossa.
