The Rome-based MIA International Audiovisual Market has invited submissions for its International Factual Forum and Italians Doc It Better showcases. The ninth edition of MIA will take place in Rome October 6 to 10. The deadline for project submission is August 10.
International Factual Forum
The International Factual Forum is designed for international producers who own 100% of the rights to their formats, providing television and digital content producers with a “valuable platform” to pitch and promote their factual formats and program ideas to an audience of potential buyers, executive producers, broadcasters, streaming services and other key players in the entertainment industry participating in MIA 2025. The goal is “to foster opportunities for acquisition, co-production, or commissioning,” write organisers.
The registered formats must fall into one of the following categories:
- Brand-Driven Format: This category is aimed at formats that owe their existence to a brand or an advertiser who played a crucial role in creating the format.
- Factual Entertainment Format: It concerns formats shot outdoors where there is no competition but an exploration of a slice of life, to delve into certain aspects of it or to entertain.
- Multi-platform Format: These are formats that involve other means of communication in the storytelling.
- Reality Format: In this category, there are no elements of competition. The formats in this category can be shot in a documentary style, following a main character in what we perceive as “real life.”
Italians Doc It Better
The Italians Doc It Better showcase is dedicated to Italian documentaries in post-production, at rough cut stage or completed, but not yet presented or screened in markets, festivals, showcases, cinemas, on TV or across platforms. “Italians Doc It Better facilitates the circulation of new Italian documentaries by providing producers with a platform to present their projects and secure international distribution,” write organisers. Submissions of feature-length films, docuseries, and tv one-off aiming for distribution abroad in cinemas, on television, or on streaming platforms are encouraged.
MIA (International Audiovisual Market)
The MIA (International Audiovisual Market) has become one of the core international market events dedicated to the audiovisual industry. The ninth edition will take place in Rome from October 6 to October 10 2025 at Cinema Barberini and the Palazzo Barberini, spanning five days with a program that includes pitching forums, showcases, networking events, conferences, workshops, and meetings, “aimed at strengthening relationships among industry professionals and promoting new collaboration agreements.”
Established in 2015, MIA is organized by ANICA (National Association of Audiovisual, Cinematic, and Digital Industries) and APA (Association of Audiovisual Producers).
