CPH:DOX returns to cinemas April 23 after two online editions, opening with Into The Ice, a timely reminder of the dangers of the West’s continuing dependence on fossil fuels. “Now it seems that we finally understand that energy politics is security politics and that therefore we have to act fast…and this film shows we need to act even faster than we thought to save the climate,” says the festival’s Niklas Engstrøm.

CPH:DOX stands with Ukraine

In solidarity with the country and its filmmakers, CPH:DOX has added 3 further Ukrainian films to this year’s programme, which now numbers seven films in total. “We have chosen to expand our programme and give more space to some of the many brave Ukrainian filmmakers who in recent years have created strong and important films with the conflict as a backdrop,” says Artistic Director Niklas Engstrøm.

Scorsese checks in as Exec Producer to Chelsea Hotel doc

Clin d’Oeil Films (Belgium) and Hard Working Movies (US) announced March 10 that Martin Scorsese has boarded Belgian directors Amélie van Elmbt and Maya Duverdier’s documentary Dreaming Walls, which world-premiered at Berlin, as exec producer. “Dreaming Walls is a multi-dimensional cinematic requiem for the Hotel Chelsea as it once was - the epicenter of a Bohemian New York that now exists only in memory,” says Scorsese.

CPH:DOX unveils Inter:Active Exhibition line-up

CPH:DOX reveals the full programme of its Inter:Active exhibition running March 25 to April 3, 2022 that will showcase a curated selection of ten new projects. “This collection takes us on a deep dive into themes of violence and identity in society and the human influence on nature, giving audiences an embodied experience of some of today’s most pressing issues,” says Mark Atkin, exhibition curator and CPH:LAB Head of Studies.

76 world premieres and 59 competition titles among the 200 new films offered up within 6 international competitions. “CPH:DOX is ready to present the full film programme with a diverse selection of films of artistic quality and contemporary relevance,” says the fest. Several films focusing on Ukraine and Russia will premiere in CPH:DOX’s main competition, Dox:Award.

This year, CPH:DOX presents a wide-ranging programme dedicated to Science and research, comprising 15 international film titles selected in parallel to the science-related films across all competitions (to be announced March 1). During the docfest, films within the Science programme will be placed into perspective by top researchers, a number of Denmark's leading experts and filmmakers and members of CPH:DOX’s own Youth Team.

Nine immersive CPH:LAB projects to be showcased at INTER:ACTIVE SYMPOSIUM 2022

This year’s first physical edition of the Inter:Active Symposium, curated and hosted by Mark Atkin, who is also the Head of Studies of CPH:LAB and curator of CPH:DOX’s Inter:Active Exhibition, will use the occasion to introduce the projects developed by CPH:LAB to consider the cultural landscape into which these works will emerge.

CPH:FORUM reveals selection for 2022 edition

Women will take centre stage in the 2022 CPH:FORUM line-up (March 28-31), both as characters and storytellers. The event will feature new projects by Jialing Zhang, Ilinca Calugareanu, Tova Mozard, Elizabeth Lo and Lana Wilson among others. Out of the 72 filmmakers and producers from 33 countries, most plan to attend CPH:FORUM 2022 physically, organisers confirm.

Into The Ice to open CPH:DOX 2022

The Danish film Into The Ice by Lars Ostenfeld is selected as the opening film of this year's CPH:DOX, and will compete in the festival’s main competition: DOX:AWARD. The March 21 world premiere will be held in Copenhagen. The festival runs 23 March to 3 April 2022 with screenings and events in and about Copenhagen and viewings hosted simultaneously in a number of cities around Denmark.
