Visions du Réel '21

The 52nd edition of Visions du Réel (15-25 April) will present 142 films from 58 countries. 82 films will be presented as world premieres and 16 as international premieres. “This powerful and eclectic 2021 selection will once again enable us to take into account the independence and the emancipation of contemporary doc filmmaking,” says Artistic Director Emilie Bujès.

Of course, Turkish siblings Zeynep and Mahmut are not ‘terrible’ at all. They’re smart, articulate and ambitious, but denied at each turn by religious and societal conservatism. Brother Ahmet, who returned to the family house after a 20-year absence, chronicles their lives as they seek independence and/or emancipation. He explains more to BDE.

Acknowledging the poverty and history of violence, director Aicha Macky finds hope in those striving for a better tomorrow.

US film director Raoul Walsh made close to 150 films, and Argentinean director/film professor Nicolás Zukerfeld has seen a great many of them, he tells BDE.
